NATJA Advanced Skills Workshop:

“Shooting A Story: Necessary Skills to Sell More Stories and Double Your Income”

Good visuals can help sell your story and double your income. But on a typical press trip, you’ll have only a few days to capture killer story images, so you’d better be focused and organized. During our 2-day workshop, you’ll learn how to get images that complement a story. We’ll cover (1) developing shot lists from story ideas/assignments, (2) what types of images to take, (3) shooting tips, (4) storing images in the field, (5) image critiques and (6) how to submit images with your story. Attendees will need a laptop with either a recent version of Adobe Lightroom, Elements or Photoshop as well as a USB memory card reader and two story ideas (one for Virginia City and one for Carson City).

This workshop will be taught by Michael DeFreitas, a world-class, award-winning photographer and author with credits from dozens of publications on assignments for stories shot around the world. Michael has taught NATJA and SATW members.

This workshop will be conducted as a NATJA 2010 Conference pre-trip. Attendees will leave from Reno's Atlantis Spa and Resort Sunday morning, be transported to Virginia City (for details about this destination Click Here) where you will shoot for the day and critique images in the evening. You will be staying in Virginia City at Edith Palmer’s Country Inn on Sunday and have a meeting room at the Cider House Factory. Monday, you will be transported to Carson City (for details about this destination Click Here) for a shoot for the day and critique images in the evening. You will have lunch at Old Red’s. You will return to Reno Tuesday morning in time to register for the 2010 NATJA Conference.

The fee for this workshop is $250.00 which includes tuition, and rooms and meals on Sunday and Monday. Sign up by calling Dawn at (626) 376-9754 or email her at dawn@natja.org.
