CityPASS offers curated, discounted admission to the top attractions in 12 North American destinations: Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Houston, New York City, Philadelphia, San Francisco, Seattle, Tampa Bay, Toronto and Southern California (includes a 3-Day Disneyland Resort Park Hopper ticket to Disneyland and Disney California Adventure Park, plus one-day admissions to SeaWorld San Diego and LEGOLAND California). CityPASS has an enviable 98% customer recommendation rating. To date, nearly 20 million CityPASS ticket booklets have been sold.

What makes CityPASS special?
CityPASS was the original attractions pass in the United States. It was created in 1996 (launched in 1997) by co-founders Mike Gallagher and Mike Morey. So, this year, we are celebrating both our 20th anniversary and our 98% customer recommendation rating. Unlike other attraction passes that give you a list of 50 or so attractions from which to choose and allow you to rush through as many as you can during the one, three or five-day life span of the pass, CityPASS takes an entirely different approach. 

As opposed to including every attraction, CityPASS ticket booklets only include a destination’s top attractions, in terms of out-of-town attendance. Also, CityPASS ticket booklets are always valid for nine consecutive days (14 days for Southern California). Mike and Mike purposely did this because they came from an attraction background. They both knew that the quickest way to break a museum director’s heart is to see visitors running through the exhibits and then dashing off to the next attraction because they're worried about getting their money’s worth out of an attraction pass. By limiting the pass to only the top attractions, visitors have prepaid admission to all the must-see sights. And the nine-day validity period means that those travelers never have to rush from place to place to get their full value. They can take an entire day at The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York or Shedd Aquarium in Chicago without feeling any pressure or stress.

Due to the volume of requests we receive, we appreciate it when journalists give us a few weeks’ notice when requesting ticket booklets. Note: We have a very limited number of Southern California CityPASS media comps, and the theme parks (Disneyland, LEGOLAND and SeaWorld) make the decision regarding to whom those can be given.

What story ideas might travel media uncover using CityPASS?
CityPASS isn’t usually the whole story. Normally, writers feature a particular destination and include CityPASS as a “traveler’s tip.” And we’re fine with that. CityPASS works well in any destination story, especially those focused on: 

  • Budget travel/how to save money when traveling — Travelers can save up to 50% off the cost of purchasing the included attraction tickets separately. 
  • How to save time when traveling — At many CityPASS partner attractions, holders skip the main-entrance ticket line. At particularly popular attractions like the Empire State Building, this can save travelers an hour or more of standing in line. 
  • Family travel enhancement — Families often need to be particularly careful about their vacation budgets, and CityPASS helps them save. For a family of four, for example, the savings with the Southern California CityPASS admission card means that one family member is basically getting into the included theme parks for free. In Chicago, the 2017 CityPASS ticket booklets save holders 53% off the cost of purchasing the included tickets individually. And antsy kids will love the fact that they don’t have to stand in the ticket purchasing line. 
  • Luxury travel — Even if you’ve got a big budget for travel, the fact that CityPASS ticket booklets often allow holders to skip the main-entrance ticket line provides more of a VIP experience. 
  • Convenience — CityPASS works as a trip planner, as it includes all your tickets in one easy-to-use booklet or voucher. It streamlines your trip, as you can buy it in advance and skip the ticket purchasing line at the included attractions. For international visitors, it means you make one purchase and don’t have to fuss with multiple transactions—and possible foreign banking fees—at several attractions.
