Kimberly Williams named director of Arkansas’s Great River Road

Kimberly Williams, a 20-year veteran of the Arkansas tourism industry and Delta native, has been named director of Arkansas’s Great River Road. The Great River Road-Arkansas National Scenic Byway is part of a 10-state driving route along both sides of the Mississippi River, from its headwaters at Lake Itasca in Minnesota to the Gulf of Mexico in Louisiana. In Eastern Arkansas, the route travels through 10 counties that are along the river or historically associated with the river.

Want to know the latest about Arkansas’s fall color? Or scenic routes for best viewing? You’ll find all this information – and more – on www.Arkansas.com. Click on the “Fall Color Update” icon.

Updated fall color reports are posted each Thursday by 5 p.m. A network of “spotters” keeps the Arkansas Department of Parks and Tourism apprised of the fall foliage status around the state. These reports are then compiled and posted online.

Pheasants Forever and Quail Forever, joined by South Dakota Governor Dennis Daugaard, today announced Sioux Falls as the 2018 host city of the nation’s largest upland hunting and conservation event. National Pheasant Fest & Quail Classic will be held at the Sioux Falls Convention Center on February 16, 17 & 18 in 2018 with Federal Premium® Ammunition serving as the presenting sponsor.  The event will also celebrate the conservation organization’s 35th anniversary and South Dakota’s 100th pheasant hunting season which will take place in the autumn of 2018.

Hiking is an awe inspiring route to experience the beauty of Arkansas. The state’s climate allows the pastime year round, and the fall season shines a spotlight on the colorful scenery.

“Fall hiking is great,” said Tim Ernst, a wilderness photographer and author of many guidebooks about hiking in Arkansas, including Arkansas Hiking Trails and the Ouachita Trail Guide. “And with so many different types of trees here, they don’t all turn color at the same time. When they do turn there are so many different colors. Our hardwood forest provides a beautiful variety when autumn sweeps across the landscape.”
