'Red Rock Fantasy' Returns to Sedona

Holiday Central Sedona is bringing back a time honored holiday tradition throughout the month of December: Red Rock Fantasy.  

For 22 years, Red Rock Fantasy delighted and amazed snow bunnies young and old. After a four-year hiatus, this cherished community event will return to Sedona at its new home, Tlaquepaque Arts & Crafts Village. Free to the community, this daily light festival is from dusk to 9:00 p.m. and a free Trolley will be available every Friday and Saturday evenings (except Christmas Eve and Christmas Day).

Bigger and better, the 9th Annual Savor the San Juans invites visitors to taste the food, farm and film culture of Lopez, Orcas and San Juan Islands

This year, Savor the San Juans is nine years old, and has grown to encompass three film festivals, art exhibits, a new sustainable seafood Salish Sea Festival, a farm parade, farmers’ markets, two vineyard harvest festivals, harvest dinners and more. Taste island grown foods and wine, beer, cider and spirits, during a selection of farm-to-table dinners by local chefs.

Arkansas junior, senior high school students invited to ‘Write on. Ride off.’

This fall, junior and senior high school students across Arkansas have the opportunity to take part in a writing contest that will not only expand their skills but help promote mountain biking tourism in the state. Sponsored by the Arkansas Department of Parks and Tourism and the Arkansas Department of Education, the contest asks students to submit a 500-1,000 word essay on “what they love about mountain biking in Arkansas.” By entering, students will compete for a $1,000 mountain bike package (bike and related gear) to be donated by The Walton Family Foundation.

The Unexpected mural festival brings international artists to Fort Smith

Mural festivals are typically in big cities. But for the second year, Fort Smith is host to The Unexpected, a mural festival bringing urban contemporary art to Arkansas. During the event occurring this week, the walls of several downtown historic buildings will be painted with large murals. The buildings are located in between about 10 square blocks. The public is encouraged to witness the process as the internationally renowned artists work to complete their murals by Sunday.

The Greers Ferry Lake and Little Red River Tourism Association and the Army Corps of Engineers are seeking volunteers and sponsors to pitch in from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. Sept. 10 during the 47th Annual Greers Ferry Lake and Little Red River Cleanup. In addition, to celebrate the Tourism Association’s 50th year, the association along with area businesses and attractions are hosting the first ever “Love the Lake and River Weekend,” Sept. 9-11 with free camping to all cleanup volunteers, free behind the scenes tours, activities, and up close and personal community experiences.
