Brant Collins named Group Travel Manager for Arkansas Department of Parks and Tourism

Brant Collins has been named the Group Travel Manager for the Tourism Division of the Arkansas Department of Parks and Tourism. An Arkansan since early childhood, Collins grew up in Dover (Pope County). After service in the U.S. Navy, Collins returned to Arkansas to attend Arkansas Tech University in Russellville, earning a degree in fine arts while pursuing television journalism on the side. After graduation, he worked as a college recruiter, eventually moving into broadcast journalism; in 2008, he started his own advertising agency, which he and his wife have run successfully for nearly a decade. “Mr. Collins comes to the Tourism Division with a great deal of related and valuable experience,” said Joe David Rice, Tourism Director for the ADPT. “He’s absolutely committed to the growth of Arkansas’s tourism industry.”

Arkansas Department of Parks and Tourism receives national travel media award

The Arkansas Department of Parks and Tourism has won the silver award in the category of “Destination Social Media or Marketing Campaign” in the 2016 North American Travel Journalists Association (NATJA) Awards Competition. The award comes in recognition of the department’s Parkansas Vacation Giveaway.

Louisiana Purchase bicentennial monument to be dedicated

State and local officials will dedicate a new sculpture commemorating the 200th anniversary of the Louisiana Purchase survey on Monday, February 20th at 10 a.m., near the artwork located in front of the Statehouse Convention Center at 101 E. Markham St. in Little Rock. “Straight Lines on a Round World,” created by local sculptor Michael Warrick and Louisiana artist Aaron Hussey, was commissioned by the Committee for Louisiana Purchase Bicentennial Monument and represents more than a decade of planning. The ceremony will feature a christening with water taken from the Arkansas and St. Francis rivers.

SCE Announces Reduced Water Restrictions for Catalina Island

Recent storms are bringing some welcome relief to Catalina Island residents after five months of living with Stage 3 water-rationing levels due to California’s historic drought. At Tuesday’s Avalon City Council meeting, Southern California Edison, the island’s water utility, announced that more than 90 percent of the island’s customers will see a return to lower water-rationing levels.
