Biography

Carole Herdegen is the Editor and Travel Consultant of TravelSITE.com, the host site of her travel magazine, TravelQuest with Carole Herdegen, the winner of the NATJA 2005 award of excellence in their competition for online travel magazines. In addition to managing her website, Carole pursues a variety of freelance travel writing and photography interests. She also maintains a schedule of public speaking engagements based upon her past and personal travel adventure accomplishments and planned global challenges.

Broadcast Journalism
In addition, Carole has spent the past several years as the featured travel expert on Adriane Berg's syndicated radio program on the BTR (Business Talk Radio) Network. Her radio broadcasts have provided the forum to promote new worldwide destinations and travel activities. Previously, Carole spent three years as co-host of Travel & Adventure, a weekly radio program (WPON-AM) covering the greater Detroit, MI area as well as global exposure via the Internet. In 2002, she received the travel broadcasting award in the NATJA awards competition.

Photography:

Carole's photographic abilities have been featured in several photographic exhibitions in Detroit such as her participation in the Detroit Focus 2000 event of world photography. She is the owner of Carole Herdegen Photography, a registered company in Michigan.

Public Speaking
Because of her extensive experiences in world travel adventures, Carole has accepted invitations to speak to audiences ranging from women's clubs to student audiences. In adition, to round out her travel activities, Carole has filmed, edited and produced short film documentaries on foreign cultures and world wildlife that she uses as visuals in her presentations to audiences, clubs, organizations, schools and television interviews.

My subject material is always from my personal accomplishments that include:

- climbing Mt.Kilimanjaro, the highest mountain in Africa.
- leading my own sled dog team across the Arctic Circle in the Brooks Range, Alaska.
- trekking the jungles of Borneo, Guatemala and Belize
- traveling the Gobi desert in China by camel
- living with aboriginal tribes in Australia
- traveling the Sepik River in Papua, New Guinea to visit native tribes
- climbing the Verunga Mts.of Rwanda and Zaire to observe high mountain gorillas
- visiting the Buddhist country of Tibet and the Kingdom of Bhutan

Earthwatch Projects:
- member of a team working on water levels in the Gobi Desert, Inner Mongolia, Rep. of China
- member of a team working with rare marsupials in Australia
- member of a team studying dolphin migration patterns off the New Zealand coastline

Sport Related Activities
- scuba diving in the Cayman Islands and Great Barrier Reef in Australia
- tandem sky-diving in New Zealand
- tandem hang-gliding in the Outer Banks of North Carolina
- spelunking in an underwater Mayan cave in Belize
- bicycling in Cuba and in Provence, France
- snow skiing in the mountains of Switzerland, Germany and Scotland, Canada, and the USA
- flying experience in an ultra-light plane

GreatEscape 2004
- participant in a Global Scavenger Hunt which covered 23 days, 10 countries and 4 continents.

Contestants visited: Hong Kong, Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand, India, Dubai UAR, Morocco, Spain, and Portugal vying for the title of World's Greatest Traveler. Carole and her partner came in third place.

Personal
Carole lived in Europe (the U.K., Switzerland, Ireland and Germany) over an 18 year period with her husband and three children. During those years, she visited most of the countries in Western Europe, Eastern and Central Europe.

I believe the above exposure to the many world cultures and geographical destinations while experiencing many different aspects of human activities provides me with a wealth of personal experience and subject material for my broadcasting, writing, photography and public speaking.
