Biography
Susan Hallett is my name and I am originally from Montreal in Canada's "la belle province". Wanderlust overcame me while publicizing Expo '67 for the Quebec Government. After arriving in Ottawa, coldest capital in the civilized world, I spent five years helping First Nations people develop and market arts and crafts. As a freelance writer, I have always had time to travel. I have steered a felucca on the Nile, participated in a Hindu wedding, bought antiques at a Tokyo flea market, gaped into a snake pit in Sao Paulo and crossed the Mannerheim Line on an overland trip from Helsinki to St. Petersburg, one of the first seven journalists to photograph Soviet Union border guards. With United Empire Loyalists in my background, being presented to Queen Elizabeth was a highlight of my career. After marrying Czech writer Jiri Klobouk in Moravia, we drank slivovitz with the mayor. Now divorced, I write travel, food and wine stories and specialize in eastern and western Europe.
