Member Notes: Milestones

NATJA members keep racking up awards.

Among the latest is Randy Gener, who received the 2010 Deadline Club Award for Best Arts Reporting in New York. The club is the local chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ), formerly known as Sigma Delta Chi. Beating The Forward and The New York Times in the specialized writing category, Gener won for an article called “Fomenting a Denim Revolution.” it rain in the May/June 2009 international edition of American Theatre, published by Theatre Communications Group.

Evelyn Kanter is the author of Peaceful Places New York City: 129 Tranquil Sites in Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx, and Staten Island. The book, which also contains Kanter’s photographs, was published by Menasha Ridge Press.

Canadian regional editor Maureen Littlejohn is the author of a new book, Aboriginal Tourism in Canada in the 21st Century (Lambert Academic Publishing). The Toronto-based author examines stereotypes, cultural preservation, and how traditions are shared at Native tourism destinations.

Darley Newman, host and producer of the Emmy-winning Equitrekking series on PBS, has launched a new company that features some of the exceptional equestrian vacations led by the locals who participated in the series. Called Equitrekking Travel, the new firm has a website at www.equitrekkingtravel.com.

In his latest book, Peter Rose offers vivid accounts of excursions on land and sea, portraits of people and places from Cape Cod to Cape Horn, and stories about playing gumshoe in Honolulu, tour guide in Amsterdam, and taxonomist in China.

NATJA president emeritus Dan Schlossberg has rejoined New Jersey Lifestyle as travel editor. He retains the same title with Sirius XM’s Maggie Linton Show, where he does weekly travel segments. After signing his latest book, The 300 Club, in Cooperstown, NY, he will appear at Foley’s NY (“an Irish bar with a baseball attitude”) to sign from 6-8 p.m. on August 18.
