Biography
Paul Rubio’s insatiable quest to discover and learn combined with his passion for documenting travel experiences has taken him to all corners of the world, 82 countries and counting. A Harvard-trained economist and environmental policy analyst, Paul once used his power of prose to secure donor funding for major poverty alleviation and sustainable development projects. Paul’s first dabble in the professional travel writing arena came about during his double master’s at Harvard, when he applied to write for the student-oriented Let’s Go travel series. After his first travel publication in 2003 with Let’s Go: Spain & Portugal, Paul continued to submit travel articles and journal entries to various travel magazines as a self-proclaimed stress relief during his five-year run as the head of an international nonprofit organization. On hiatus from the world of foreign aid, Paul has taken on his passion of travel writing full-time, contributing to Fodor’s guide books, jetsetter.com, Palm Beach Illustrated, Ocean Home magazine, The Advocate, Out magazine, and outtraveler.com while penning his magnum opus, 300 Gay Friendly Destinations to See Before you Die and promoting his Florida travel book, The Out Traveler: South Florida. Each week Paul journeys to a different part of the world, exploring regions both on and off the beaten path. From the beaches of his hometown in Miami to the jungles of Ecuador to the coral reefs of the Maldives, Paul traverses the globe reporting to his constituency of luxe travelers, thrill seekers, culture buffs, beach bums, and wildlife aficionados. Paul’s work exudes authenticity and personality, catering to both avid voyagers and armchair travelers.
