2026 May Featured Organization of the Month: Visit Concord

Concrod, California is a vibrant, diverse community known for being near the Mt Diablo foothills in San Francisco’s East Bay, north of Oakland, Berkeley and Walnut Creek. We are home to a National Historical Park and the Concord Naval Weapons Station Magazine, Port Chicago and Thurgood Marshall Regional Park, home of the Port Chicago 50.

What is your destination most known for?

Must see is attending Port Chicago Week for WWII, African American history, civil rights stories and struggles that are largely unknown.

During this season, what are some must-see attractions?

We have earned awards and accolades for our Original Taco Trail and Challenge featuring over 40 taquerias. Additionally, Concord is home to one of the most beautiful outdoor concert venues built by Frank Gehry, which opened in 1975, the Concord (Toyota) Pavilion. Concord’s rich Jazz history is the birthplace and home of Dave Brubeck, who was an extremely prominent artist in his day.

What hidden gem should not be missed when visiting your destination?

Hidden Gem is Markham Arboretum, featuring hundreds of trees and plants from all over the world, which thrive in our climate.

What’s one feature that can’t be missed when visiting your website?

A feature that can’t be missed is a concert at the Concord (Toyota) Pavilion.

I am a previous NATJA member (Kitsap County, Washington)

Is there anything else you feel travel media should know about your destination?

Todos Santos Park in historic downtown Concord is one of the most picturesque areas in the East Bay.
