Riverboard Discovery

Discovery Riverboat on the Chena River

All attendees will have the opportunity to come aboard the Riverboard Discovery with lunch at Miner’s Hall.

As the Riverboat Discovery cruises along the Chena and Tanana Rivers, you will get to experience Fairbanks’ history, nature, and beauty firsthand. Hop off the Riverboat Discovery for a guided walking tour of the Chena Village Living Museum, an Athabascan village with cabins made of spruce logs, a cache used for storing supplies, a spruce bark hut and fur pelts. Guides will share with you what it takes to adapt and survive in the Alaskan wilderness.

From watching bush pilots skillfully land on the river to learning from a riverside fish camp about traditional salmon preparation, this cruise along the Chena and Tanana Rivers will give you a glimpse into what makes interior Alaska such a unique destination.

Discover Big Things

Visit the University of Alaska Museum of the North on the University of Alaska Fairbanks campus to discover Alaska Native cultures, natural wonders, diverse wildlife and Arctic dinosaurs. Complete the tour with a visit to a local institute to learn why Fairbanks is the best place in the United States to see the aurora borealis during Aurora Season (August 21-April 21).

Golden Heart Fever

Learn how to pan for gold from the experts at Gold Daughters. Roll up your sleeves and pan your own paydirt. “Finders keepers” rules apply here so anything you find, you get to take home! While at Gold Daughters, visit the Gold Rush history museum and the gift shop. Located just across from Gold Daughters is the Trans-Alaska Pipeline Viewpoint where you’ll get up close and personal with one of the world’s engineering marvels.

Midnight Sun Pub Crawl

Bottoms up! Spend the afternoon visiting three of Fairbanks’ breweries and distilleries – HooDoo Brewing Company, Latitude 65 Brewing Company and Fairbanks Distilling Company. Sample delicious locally brewed and distilled beverages at each stop while learning more about each location and what sets it apart from the others.

Fairbanks Forest Frolic

Take a guided nature walk through the taiga with reindeer at Running Reindeer Ranch. Learn about the natural history of the boreal forest and the reindeer themselves. Watch the reindeer as they leap and frolic through the woods, roaming freely alongside us. Each walk is a unique experience that changes based on the season, trail conditions, and the reindeers’ moods. This nature walk features uneven terrain, so good walking shoes and weather-appropriate clothing are required. Our reindeer are tame but not trained, so sometimes they decide to take a route not planned for. Bring your cameras and expect the unexpected!
