Our Mission

The North American Travel Journalists Association’s mission is to provide educational and networking opportunities to help members succeed in the evolving multiplatform journalism environment and travel industry with an emphasis on diversity, equity, inclusion and accessibility.

Our History

Founded in 1991 by a group of sixteen travel writers, the North American Travel Journalists Association (NATJA) is one of the largest professional associations of travel writers, photographers, editors, bloggers and tourism professionals dedicated to the highest quality of journalism excellence in promoting travel and leisure activities to the general public. This is accomplished through its ongoing professional development programs, bi-weekly newsletter, annual awards competition and annual conference and Marketplace.

NATJA has two membership levels.

  1. Travel media professionals who contribute articles, photography, television and radio programs, blogs, guides, apps and other content to print and digital media.
  2. Convention and visitors bureaus, destination marketing organizations, publications in North America.

In addition, NATJA publishes TravelWorld International magazine, a member benefit since its stories and photography are done exclusively by NATJA members. CVB/DMO members receive complimentary advertising annually as part of their member benefit.
