Virtuoso, the Magazine is an insider’s companion to the world’s best travel experiences. It speaks to seasoned travelers with warmth, authority, and valuable insight about travel. We like our transformative travel with a dose of wit and humor. Our readers are affluent, adventurous – but not extreme – travelers who expect authenticity and insider access. We publish stories with intriguing anecdotes and narratives that put readers in a place to interact with locals and take in the sights, scents, and flavors of a destination. We value angles that champion diverse voices and sustainability – travel that protects the planet, supports local economies, and preserves cultural heritage. We ONLY cover hotels, tour operators, or cruise lines that are affiliated with the Virtuoso network (find a searchable catalog on virtuoso.com).
What is Virtuoso, the Magazine? Who is your audience?
Virtuoso, the Magazine is the flagship, consumer-facing print publication of Virtuoso, a by-invitation-only network of luxury travel agencies and hotels, tour operators, tourism boards, and cruise lines. Travel advisors subscribe their top clients to the magazine as a gift. We’re a consumer publication, not a trade magazine. Our readers are well traveled, well-off, and curious about the world. The magazine’s circulation is 200,000 in the U.S. and Canada (6x/year). We also publish in Australia and New Zealand (4x/year), the UK and Ireland (2x/year), Latin America (1x/year), and, beginning later this year, annually in Greater China. We also publish digital-only stories on Virtuoso.com.
How can NATJA members access and enjoy the content that you publish?
Much of our content is redistributed on Virtuoso.com, and our back catalog for U.S./Canada and regional editions is available in digital flip-book format here.
How did you hear about NATJA? Why did you join?
We’ve been members for most of the magazine’s 25-year history! We value our NATJA membership as a connection to our industry peers.
If a NATJA member would like to contribute to the publication, where can they learn more about your query process?
We work with a network of well-connected writers around the world and rely heavily on freelance contributors. For print and digital contributions, check out our writers’ guidelines.
Is there anything else you feel NATJA Members should know about your publication?
We seek out writing that sparkles – wit and humor are valued here. This is luxury, but it’s never snobbish or overwrought. We run a wide variety of destination-centric stories with the caveat that we only include mentions of hotels, tour operators, and cruise lines that are part of Virtuoso’s network. We appreciate it when writers do their research to make sure their story doesn’t include non-Virtuoso hotels, cruise lines, or tour operators before pitching us. Luckily for us, there are more than 2,800 of the world’s very best (all listed on Virtuoso.com)! Virtuoso as an organization exists in large part to support travel advisor, so while we are consumer-facing (not trade), we steer clear of DIY angles and often incorporate travel advisor expertise and quotes into our stories.
