Join Rails to Trails Conservancy, the nation’s largest trails advocacy organization, this September to explore the Great American Rail-Trail from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, to Columbus, Ohio.
From September 21 – 24, RTC is inviting press, funders and political leaders to experience the tourism and economic potential trails deliver. Together, we’ll travel 122 miles of the developing Great American Rail-Trail, the country’s next iconic piece of infrastructure, that will connect the country between Washington, D.C., and Washington State. Along the way, we’ll connect with local elected officials, business owners, advocates and residents getting to know each of the towns along the route in the most intimate way possible—from the seat of a bicycle.
Destination highlights include Pittsburgh’s Point State Park, where the Allegheny and Monongahela rivers meet to form the Ohio River; the Hellbender Preserve and the Lincoln Bridge and Tunnel; Amish culture on the Holmes County Trail; the chance to ride across the Bridge of Dreams, the longest covered bridge in Ohio, and check out the Kokosing Gap Trail Steam Locomotive.
Throughout the tour, we’ll make stops for hydration, exploration and meet and greets. The tour is appropriate for bicyclists of all skill levels with opportunities for shuttling as needed. Electric bicycles and helmets will be provided if needed.
