I'm a San Francisco area-based travel writer focusing on adventure travel and the outdoors. I came to writing later than most after careers in software engineering and high school track and cross country coaching.

I'm a freelance travel and outdoor writer based in the San Francisco Bay Area. I have been traveling and outdoor adventuring for most of my life. My father was an airline pilot and I had the chance to travel the world from a very young age. Outdoors-wise I've done everything from rock climbing to backpacking to ultrarunning to kayak camping in Baja. In recent years I've been most involved with longer-distance human power activities; running, hiking, bikepacking, etc. I took up writing seriously later in life, only after retiring from previous careers in software development and high school coaching.
Earlier this year I founded a website (http://www.outdoorsbayarea.com) intending to be a complete guide to all outdoor activities in the San Francisco Bay Area. For that, I've written articles and created content about local endurance races, hiking and biking trails, and local park guides.
Finally, I find that in writing about myself I lose all the characteristic humor (funny or not) that typically appears in my work.
