1. What is your destination most known for?
Our city hub, Auburn, is Harriet Tubman’s Chosen hometown. You can visit the Home for the Aged, her home, and her burial site and experience over 50 years of her legacy. Sound on film was invented here as well. We are full of rich and varied history.
2. During this time, how can we enjoy your destination?
Winter is a quite time in Cayuga County but is the perfect time to explore our stunning outdoors and delectable farm to table restaurants, and craft beverage scene. Summer & Fall are bustling with activites as we boast the most freshwater coastline in NYS, a fisherman’s paradise, fun family memories that even your four-legged buddy can partake in. Festivals and events happen weekly around the county so there is no shortage of entertainment.
3. What hidden gem should not be missed when visiting your destination?
Fair Haven. A small village at the top of the county situated along Great Lake Ontario.
4. What’s one feature that can’t be missed when visiting your website?
We are always updating with new campaigns and seasonal content but our events page is always a top performer.
5. How did you hear about NATJA, and why did you join?
My Exectuive Director had attended the conference in the past and brought it back for this year. I appreciated the cost break out when joining membership and the fee for attending the conference. That made it a no brainer for us to join. We also were able to add a position to our office that would allow us to be more participatory members and take advantage of all the benefits you offer.
6. Is there anything else you feel travel media should know about your destination?
For 2024 we have some dates for group FAM tours, if interested please reach out, we are also happy to entertain ideas/pitches should those dates/themes not be on your list, and you have other ideas on how to showcase our wonderful destination. It might be a little short notice, but we are situated directly in the path of totality for the 2024 Total Solar Eclipse on April 8th.
