  • We are Having a Blast Celebrating Summer on Florida’s Historic Coast!

We are Having a Blast Celebrating Summer on Florida’s Historic Coast!

St. Augustine, Fla. (June 29, 2022)– We are making some noise in July on Florida’s Historic Coast. Our summertime celebration features lots of music and a big BANG this on Fourth of July Weekend, and the sweet sounds, fresh flavors and fun in the sun continue throughout the summer.

    fireworks-summer.jpg

The sweet sounds of summer are celebrated over the approaching holiday weekend at the St. Augustine Music Festival where inspiring, world-class music is presented in the welcoming environment of the Cathedral Basilica, and The Oak Fest at The Colonial Oak Music Park which features some of the region’s favorite contemporary performers. On July 4, Fireworks Over the Matanzas returns with Concert in the Plaza followed by one of the largest displays of fireworks on the East Coast exploding above the majestic Castillo de San Marcos. On July 16, the St. Augustine Country Festival & St. Augustine Craft Beer Festival will feature live country music, country food, fine crafts & country fashion exhibits, lots of beer & wine tastings, and more at the events field. Then in early September, St. Augustine celebrates Founder’s Day with a full day of events including the reenactment of Pedro Menendez’ September 8, 1565 landing, followed by a full day of celebration at the Fountain of Youth Archaeological Park and the Mission Nombre de Dios.

It has never been more comfortable to eat, stay and play on Florida’s Historic Coast. There are many ways to experience the summer events and excitement on Florida’s Historic Coast. There are also great deals on fun tours, delicious treats and great places to stay.

Here are a few experiences to enjoy on Florida’s Historic Coast this summer:

    > Take a walk on St. Augustine or Ponte Vedra Beach and you’ll find history dating back to the ice age. Mickler’s Landing and the beaches at the GTM Reserve are popular access points for visitors and a secret place to find fossilized shark teeth. You may also find some shark tooth and other unique shell treasures along Vilano Beach.

    > Music continues to be celebrated throughout the summer months on Florida’s Historic Coast The St. Augustine Amphitheatre will feature Blackberry Smoke along with The Steel Woods, Buddy Guy with John Hiatt and The Gonners, Iration and Atmosphere, Slightly Stoopid, Rick Springfield with Men at Work and few other greats on stage this summer. There are also many free concerts through the summer. Music by The Sea Concerts take place at St. Augustine Beach Pier Park every Wednesday Night in August & September, while every Thursday night through the summer the Colonial Oak Music Park features the area’s most popular country music performers and the Concerts in the Plaza continues to remain a St. Augustine summertime tradition.

    >  Experience Guana Lake’s amazing glow! Starlight and silence set the stage for the magically brilliant display of aquamarine and electric-blue bioluminescence created by billions of comb jellies and single-celled dinoflagellates in the water. Plan to participate in an exclusive nighttime paddling tour to see the phenomena with Geotrippin Adventure Company.

    >   Find your hot spot, cast a line to and try your luck at catching dinner. Whether on the banks, in the surf, inshore or offshore, there are several local guides that can take you to find just the right spots to target redfish, flounder, trout, whiting, pompano, and other species that are fun to catch and provide great table-fare. Take your catch to one of the great area restaurants that offer a line and dine experience.

    >   Take care of yourself! There are so many great options for taking better care of your body, mind and soul while vacationing on Florida’s Historic Coast. Wellness has always been on the top of the list here. Even Henry Flagler’s Alcazar Hotel offered luxury and fitness to visiting guests back in the 1880s. Today the collection of resort spas and day spas help the wellness traveler tap into the area’s history of luxury with a variety of services and wellness programs.

    > How about taking a scenic trip across the bay while beating the traffic and learning more about St. Augustine’s natural environment and culture? The new Dolphin Bay Scenic Shuttle recently started carrying passengers between the Vilano Beach Public Pier and the St. Augustine Municipal Marina. Not only is it scenic and fun, but it is also the ideal transport for guests staying downtown to get to the beach without a car, or Vilano Beach lodging guests to get downtown without worrying about a place to park.

Getting here is a little easier this summer.

Florida’s Historic Coast remains an easy access drive destination accessible by I-95in Northeast Florida. There is great air service available via Jacksonville International Airport (JAX), approximately 50 minutes north of St. Augustine and 30 minutes from Ponte Vedra, and Daytona Beach International Airport (DAB) which is approximately 50 minutes to the south.  Both airports are serviced by all major carriers.

  • Streamsong Resort Releases Routing and Logo of Fourth Course to be Called “The Chain”

Streamsong Resort Releases Routing and Logo of Fourth Course to be Called “The Chain”

Routing by Coore & Crenshaw Design and course name and logo play into inherent natural features and rich history of the unique property

STREAMSONG, FLORIDA  – Streamsong Golf Resort announced today the name, routing and new logo for the fourth golf course slated to join the award-winning golf offerings at the world-renowned destination. The newly released layout by the legendary design team of Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw (Coore & Crenshaw Design) shows six- and 12-hole loops, with the first tees a short walking distance from the Lodge at Streamsong. The Chain, as the course is being dubbed, gets its name from the remnants of a piece of mining equipment used to hold a dragline bucket in place that was discovered on the site during the routing process. The Mosaic Company, which owns Streamsong, mined the 16,000-acre site for phosphate ore for decades, leading to the incredible sand formations that make the topography at this location unique. Special edition merchandise featuring The Chain logo will be available online and on site at Streamsong beginning in August.

The Chain routing uses every nuance of a site encompassing roughly 100 acres. The 3,000 yard layout will be a walking course with holes ranging from 90 to nearly 300 yards. This new concept, with options of six-, 12- and 18-hole loops, does not require a full set of clubs, and will present guests with a quicker option than its larger and longer siblings.

The first six-hole loop is designed to be playable for any level of golfer, meandering through an impressive grove of native live oak trees with the longest hole at around 145 yards. The 12-hole loop sprawls across decades old mining cuts and along the banks of Little Payne Creek. These holes stretch from around 125 to nearly 300 yards, providing more challenge and opportunities for risk and reward.

Namesake large dragline chain links will mark the beginning and end of each tee box but specified tee markers and a score relative to par will be conspicuously absent from each hole and scorecard.  Players will be able to tee off wherever they would like on each hole. A sprawling two acre putting course called “The Bucket” (roughly twice the size of the existing Gauntlet putting course at Streamsong Black) is a featured part of the new design and also pays tribute to the large dragline buckets used to excavate phosphate from the site.  With a location just steps from the Lodge entrance, The Bucket promises to provide another fun experience for guests after a round.

“Ben and I have wonderful memories of working with our talented associates and the Mosaic Company to create Streamsong Red and we appreciate the opportunity to return to one of America’s most sought out golfing destinations,” said Bill Coore of Coore & Crenshaw Design. “Routed on a highly interesting site, The Chain will feature a variety of holes laid upon a landscape of parkland, live oaks, sand and lakes,” Coore continued. “Although diminutive in size, we believe The Chain, when combined with the anything-but-diminutive Bucket putting course, has the potential to complement, perhaps even enhance, Streamsong’s reputation for must-be-experienced golf.”

Coore & Crenshaw, who also designed Streamsong Red, which opened in 2012 with “Best New U.S. Course” honors and is perennially ranked among the top 30 courses in the U.S. by Golf Digest, Golf Magazine and Golfweek, are incorporating existing elevation change while utilizing the natural beauty found along the banks of Little Payne Creek.

“Having the opportunity to spend time with Bill Coore and his team as they walked the site and now seeing that vision come to life in the course routing is really special,” said Ben Pratt, Mosaic senior vice president of government and public affairs. “Finding the old dragline chain on the site gave us a great way to pay homage to the site’s origins while creating unusual golf branding opportunities.”

Streamsong is home to the only warm weather destination with three courses, Streamsong Red, Streamsong Blue and Streamsong Black, in the “Top 40 You Can Play” in the United States, and the only destination in the world with three distinct golf courses designed by legendary architects Coore/Crenshaw, Doak, and Hanse/Wagner.

  • Rodin’s Sculptures Bring the Ageless Beauty of Bronze to Polk Museum of Art

Rodin’s Sculptures Bring the Ageless Beauty of Bronze to Polk Museum of Art

Lakeland, FL (June 15, 2022) – This summer, the Polk Museum of Art at Florida Southern College presents “Rodin: Contemplation and Dreams / Selections from the Iris and B. Gerald Cantor Collections”on view June 25 through October 30, 2022, in the Museum’s Dorothy Jenkins Gallery, Gallery II, and Perkins Gallery. Featuring more than 40 works by the renowned and celebrated French sculptor Auguste Rodin, this exhibition brings one of art history’s most famous and influential French masters to Central Florida.

Auguste Rodin (1840–1917) revived for the modern world a new appreciation for the ageless beauty of bronze sculpture, mastering and modernizing a technique long associated with ancient Greek art. Rodin, like many modern artists of the time, believed that art should be true to nature, rather than idealized like much of the art and sculpture that came before. As a result, Rodin created sculptures that captured human movement, emotion, and drama. This exhibition introduces viewers to some of Rodin’s most famous works and projects, including “Saint John the Baptist Preaching,” “The Gates of Hell,” and “Three Faunesses.”

Displaying Auguste Rodin, ‘Claude Lorrain,’ modeled 1889, Musée Rodin cast 5 of 8, 1992 , Bronze, Coubertin Foundry, Lent by Iris Cantor.jpg

“Rodin is one of the most iconic artists in the history of art, modern or otherwise, with sculptures and a sculptural style that are instantly recognizable,” explains Dr. H. Alexander Rich, executive director and chief curator. “Rodin’s deft ability to mold out of metal relatable human emotion and drama promises to speak across generations to visitors of all ages and backgrounds. Truly, in addition to the beauty of their craftsmanship, Rodin’s figures succeed in making us feel, too. We cannot wait to share Rodin’s mastery with our community in this incredible exhibition, the scope of which exceeds any sculptural show we have presented before.”

“Rodin: Contemplation and Dreams / Selections from the Iris and B. Gerald Cantor Collections” will be on view at the Polk Museum of Art June 25 through October 30, 2022. This exhibition is the largest installation of sculptures in the Museum’s history, and gallery visitors will learn about the incredible talent of Rodin, his life-long pursuit of art, his sometimes controversial career, and his monumental contributions and influence on modern sculpture. Rodin: Contemplation and Dreams has beenorganized and made possible by the Iris and B. Gerald Cantor Foundation and is sponsored by Florida Southern College, Ting Tsung and Wei Fong Chao Foundation, Votum Foundation, Culture Builds Florida, LKLD Mayor’s Council for the Arts, and Visit Central Florida. For more information, visit PolkMuseumofArt.org/Rodin. Additional exhibition programming and educational opportunities can be found at PolkMuseumofArt.org/Events.

    About Auguste Rodin:

Auguste Rodin (1840–1917) began his career in the early 1860s, although his love of the arts began much earlier in life. As a young child, Rodin often visited museums to draw and admire Greek and Roman sculptures, giving him an appreciation for the history, myths, stories depicted in the works, and timeless methods employed by ancient sculptures. During this same time, new movements and ideas were taking hold of the art world, including Realism and Impressionism. Immersed in the cultural shift towards more humanistic themes, Rodin approached the ancient technique of bronze sculpture through a modern lens. The result is sculptures that depict an astonishingly naturalistic sensibility, capturing human emotion and effortless movement.

Although Rodin would go on to be celebrated as the greatest sculptor of the 19th century, his career was not without challenges. His new approach to sculpture was rejected by galleries and the Salon, both of which still sought out more traditional, idealized works. Nonetheless, Rodin would persist, creating iconic works including his masterwork “The Gates of Hell,” as well as “Mask of the Man with the Broken Nose,” and “The Three Shades.” By the turn-of-the-20th-century, Rodin had altered the way traditional sculpture was perceived, setting the stage for modern sculptors to come.

  • Live Music Rocks the Lake of the Ozarks This Summer!

Live Music Rocks the Lake of the Ozarks This Summer!

LAKE OF THE OZARKS, MO – Central Missouri’s Lake of the Ozarks is at its most lively during the summer months, with hundreds of live music performances taking place on the weekends around the “Best Recreational Lake in the Nation.” Nationally celebrated headliners and promising regional and local up-and-comers bring their musical prowess to venues big and small, making the Lake of the Ozarks the place to be for music lovers this summer.

“Live music is an integral part of living the ‘Lake life,’” says Lagina Fitzpatrick, executive director for the Lake of the Ozarks Tri-County Lodging Association. “On just about any given day during the summer months, you’ll have no trouble finding live music at nearly any of the Lake of the Ozarks’ many restaurants as well as our different resorts and entertainment complexes.”

The Lake’s largest venue, Ozarks Amphitheater, is an impressive, open-air venue located in Camdenton that seats over 10,000 spectators. Ozarks Amphitheater has a well-earned reputation for bringing in some of the biggest names in music and that tradition continues this summer.

The summer concert series at Ozarks Amphitheater kicks off in May with Breaking Benjamin on May 7; Classic rockers REO Speedwagon, Styx, and George Thorogood and The Destroyers on May 11; Alt-rock pioneers The Smashing Pumpkins on May 18; Country stalwarts Tracy Lawrence and Clay Walker on May 27. Modern Outlaw Country heavyweights Cody Jinks, Lucas Nelson and The Promise of the Real, and Whitey Morgan close out the month with a performance on May 29.

The month of June begins with a long-awaited appearance by country music legend Willie Nelson on June 3 followed by singer-songwriter Jackson Browne on June 4 with the modern country sensational duo The Brothers Osborne on June 24.

Four-time Grammy winner Jason Isbell and The 400 Unit with special guest Charley Crockett get July off to a bang on July 1. The rest of July brings Marie Osmond with the Missouri Symphony on July 6; classic rockers Ozark Mountain Daredevils on July 9 and Kansas and .38 Special on July 15 and celebrated country band Little Big Town on July 29.

August concerts at the Ozarks Amphitheater include Outlaw Country flag-bearer Jamey Johnson on August 15 and the venerable blues-rockers The Black Crowes on August 20.

For more information on the Ozarks Amphitheater or to order tickets for the upcoming concert series, please visit OzarksAmphitheater.com.

Shawnee Bluff Vineyard, located off Highway 54 at 8 Tolwood Road between Eldon and Lake Ozark, features an outdoor wine garden and amphitheater set on 40 acres of rolling hills overlooking the winery’s vineyard. Each summer Shawnee Bluff hosts a fine selection of country music’s brightest stars. This summer, the Vineyard hosts Grammy-winning bluegrass artist Rhonda Vincent and The Rage with special guests The Blackwoods on June 26.

Shawnee Bluff’s second location, Shawnee Bluff Winery, located on the Bagnell Dam Strip in Lake Ozark, features live music every weekend throughout the year. For more information on both locations – the Vineyard and the Winery – as well as a full events calendar, visit www.ShawneeBluff.com.

The major marquee venues aren’t the only way to enjoy an evening of great live music at the Lake. With over 200 restaurants and bars throughout the area, there is no shortage of options when it comes to choosing how one should spend their evening when visiting the Lake. Many of the Lake’s eateries and night spots feature live music on any given night during the summer season, and most weekends throughout the rest of the year, making it easy and delightful to catch a great band at a favorite spot. From rock and roll to jazz, country to bluegrass, music lovers can take their pick.

All the different restaurants and bars are too numerous to list, but there are several noteworthy venues with dedicated stages that regularly attract great groups and large crowds. H. Toads Bar & Grill at Camden on the Lake Resort, located in Lake Ozark, hosts live music four nights a week (Thursday through Sunday evenings). H. Toad’s summer concerts kick off on Friday, May 13 and include regional favorites such as Kalani, the Cherry Pistols, Dr. Zhivegas, Five Turn Know, Kricket Alley, Bad Habit and Dirt Road Addiction, to name but a few. For a complete calendar of upcoming events, please visit www.HToads.com.

Located right across the cove from H. Toad’s is Shady Gator’s Restaurant and Bar that hosts an “Epic Summer Concert Series” each year. Shady Gator’s hosts Colt Ford on June 3, Lanco on June 18 and Casey Donahew on July 22. For a complete calendar of musical performances, visit www.ShadyGators.com.

An annual summertime musical tradition is AquaPalooza, the Lake of the Ozarks’ one-day on-the-water music festival. AquaPalooza takes places on July 16 and is the Lake’s largest family-friendly summer concert event each year, combining many of the best things about the area, like on-the-water fun, live music, boating, swimming and great food and drinks. Now entering its 17th year, AquaPalooza moves to a new home at Captain Ron’s Bar and Grill in Sunrise Beach to better accommodate the thousands of spectators for a day of fun and musical entertainment. For more information on AquaPalooza, please visit www.FunLake.com/AquaPalooza.
