Dear NATJA Family & Friends:

With the social pressures that have recently brought into sharp focus the importance of diversity in each organization’s workforce composition, internal processes and outward bound messages, NATJA’s Advisory Board thought it appropriate to take its own temperature. We are blessed to have a staff and management dominated by persons of color. We have carefully assembled an Advisory Board that is diverse, informed and active. And in our last virtual meeting, we harnessed these many resources to examine how NATJA might best craft its outreach to grow our membership in communities of color, in LGBTQ communities and disabled communities expand the outlets our membership serves, and review our processes to assure that we reflect the rich diversity of our countries of origin. We have set up a working group of Vickie Ashford-Thompson, Francesca Donlan, Tonya Fitzpatrick, Gustavo Rivas-Solis and Yani Leon to review and improve NATJA’s ongoing diversity, equity and inclusion efforts. Should any member like to join this group, please email yani@natja.org. We look forward to working together to extend our reach. Stay tuned…

Our thoughts are with our members who continue to be affected by the COVID-19 crisis. If we all do our part by wearing a mask, washing our hands and practicing social distancing, we can hope to make strides in flattening this curve.

Stay safe and be well.

Warm regards,

Helen Hernandez
Chief Executive Officer
