The vision of the Springfield Convention & Visitors Bureau is to lead the area travel industry in promoting Springfield as a premier destination for leisure travelers and outdoor enthusiasts, a recognized and successful host city for meetings and conventions, and a prominent and respected venue for sporting events.
1. ) What is your destination most known for?
Springfield, the third-largest city in Missouri, is becoming the outdoors capital of the country. With Bass Pro’s flagship store, Wonders of Wildlife National Museum & Aquarium and all kinds of outdoors activities in and near the city, Springfield is the place to go for outdoor enthusiasts.
2.) During this time, how can we enjoy your destination?
Because of all the outdoor activities in Springfield and the precautions businesses are taking, the city and all it has to offer can be enjoyed year round.
3.) What hidden gem should not be missed when visiting your destination?
Be sure to visit The History Museum on the Square. It’s a local history museum but Springfield has been touched by people and events that make it of interest to anyone. For example, Elvis performed at the Shrine Mosque in Springfield, snuck out to watch a movie at The Gillioz Theatre and stayed at the Best Western Route 66 Rail Haven Hotel all of which continue to operate. An entire wing of the museum also is dedicated to Route 66 and how it got its start in Springfield.
4.) What’s one feature that can’t be missed when visiting your website?
Writers will love our blog. It’s updated frequently with new stories that would inspire story ideas for travel journalists.
5.) How did you hear about NATJA, why did you join?
I don’t remember how I heard about it! I joined for the opportunity to network with professional journalists and public relations peers representing the hospitality industry.
6.) Is there anything else you feel travel media should know about your destination?
Springfield is a family-friendly destination filled with lots of attractions, an amazing dining scene and the city is only 35 miles from Branson. Combining the two destinations in one trip is recommended!
