Livermore Valley wine country's Painted Barrel Trail & Raffle and winery brunches will return in 2019 for the 11th annual Barrel Tasting Weekend March 23 and 24. More than 30 wineries located less than an hour from San Francisco or Silicon Valley will join area breweries and distilleries to offer samples of locally produced libations from noon to 4:30 each day. Guests can enjoy brunch at a winery each morning and pre-purchase some barrel wines at a discount, a practice known as buying "futures." Many winemakers will be present to pour and discuss their young wines.
Barrel Tasting Weekend provides wine enthusiasts of all experience levels with a fun "snapshot" of how wine evolves - from grape to glass. More than a dozen varietals, including Sangiovese, Barbera, Mourvedre and ever-popular Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon, will be presented for tasting across Livermore Valley. Guests with special event wristbands and official glasses will receive samples at each participating winery, brewery and distillery. Many locations will have live music, arts and crafts vendors, discounts on bottle purchases and food available for purchase. Visit LVwine.org for a list of offerings by location, including a wine aroma game with hourly prizes at McGrail Vineyards.
Barrel Tasting Weekend tickets are $45 in advance and $55 at the event. Brunch packages (meal + event ticket) are $55 or $65 depending on the day and Extraordinary Tour Services is offering a package with shuttle service to selected wineries for $79. All tickets and package deals are available for purchase at LVwine.org.
Painted Barrel Trail & Raffle A dozen wineries have teamed up with local artists to create Livermore Valley's second annual Painted Barrel Trail. A hand-painted, full-size wine barrel will be displayed in front of each participating winery starting February 1. For the weekends leading up to Barrel Tasting Weekend, visitors are invited to follow the Painted Barrel Trail, sample wines and admire the original artwork on the barrels. To win a painted barrel and a case of wine, guests can purchase raffle tickets - $20 each, or six tickets for $100 - at participating wineries and at the Livermore Valley Winegrowers Association's office. Winners will be randomly selected and notified immediately after Barrel Tasting Weekend. Wineries participating in the Painted Barrel Trail & Raffle include: Big White House Winery, Charles R Vineyards, Embodied Wines, Fenestra Winery, Las Positas Vineyards, Leisure Street Winery, McGrail Vineyards and Winery, Murrieta's Well, Omega Road Winery, Page Mill Winery, Retzlaff Vineyards, Wente Vineyards Estate Tasting Room and Wood Family Vineyards.
Winery Brunches On each day of Barrel Tasting Weekend, one Livermore Valley winery will host a delicious brunch featuring an omelet station, pastries, fruit and Mimosas. Saturday's brunch also includes buffet entrees such as eggs benedict. Brunch prices include a Barrel Tasting Weekend ticket. Visit LVwine.org for complete menus.
